Termites, often mistakenly called ‘White Ants’, are becoming an increasingly common problem in and around the Canberra area. They have soft white bodies and are generally wingless. In Canberra there are 4 main species of termites. The termite that generally builds mounds seen around the bush are a different species to that generally found in your home.
Termites cause damage to buildings and can devastate your home as damage is often hard to spot until it is severe. Termites can damage structural timber walls, beams and trusses causing damage that can make your home unsafe and structurally inadequate. They eat the Celulose within things such as wood, paper, cardboard and cork. Potential warning signs that you have a problem may include buckling and damaged wood, swollen floors and flaking paint.
The CSIRO recommends that houses be inspected for termites at a minimum once a year. It is very important not to disturb the damage found in your home by breaking it open further or spraying the termites with household fly and spider spray.
Prevention is the best cure and Armageddon Pest Control can provide termite inspections as well as treatment. A termite inspection is conducted of your building and property to detect any live termite activity and evidence of termites. Inspections allow for the early detection and existence of termites on your property and therefore eradication hopefully before they have caused too much damage.
We use the state of the art ‘Termatrac’ tracker to find termites on your property and also use baiting and monitoring systems from Exterra, Termatrix and Exterm once detected to eradicate termite colonies.
